Office Historische Bodensee Schifffahrt
The fleet of Historische Schifffahrt Bodensee includes two historically valuable ships:
The Art Nouveau steamship Hohentwiel, built in the 1920s, was restored to its original beauty with a great deal of expertise and financial support from the founders of HSB. The historic steam engine with its 950 hp impresses with its technical precision and fascinates with the mechanical aesthetics of the levers, cranks and valves polished to a high gloss and the enormous paddle wheels painted red.
The MS Oesterreich, on the other hand, ushered in the era of motor ships on Lake Constance. Since 1928 until today, the first large motor ship on Lake Constance has transported the luxury of that era. Like so many historic ships, the Oesterreich was to be scrapped in 2012. Through the private commitment of courageous investors, the beautiful art deco motor ship was repaired and is operated together with the historic steam ship Hohentwiel.
For the administration and sales of Historische Schifffahrt Bodensee, Susanne Fritz Architekten realized a new office and customer information center in Hard, in the province of Vorarlberg, AT.
The design is all-around nautical inspired and lets the customer journey already start on land.
The premises of the former bank were gutted as well as the floor plan reorganized into an open-plan open-plan office. A curtain system nevertheless allows the space to be partitioned flexibly and ensures good acoustics.
The reception counter in the customer area is marked by a sequence of wooden elements inspired by ship frames. The customer waiting area is designed as a lounge, with changing art exhibitions by Vorarlberg artists.
A new printing technology allowed us to use a unique floor covering: The carpet was printed with a ship's bottom motif developed for Historische Schifffahrt Bodensee. The floor-to-ceiling display case shows the model ships of the fleet and also functions as a room divider. The planning and construction time was only three months in order to open the office on time for the start of the shipping season in spring 2021.
