Retirement home in Rorschach

Due to a fire in the Rorschach retirement home, two floors of the western wing became uninhabitable. The town of Rorschach took this as an opportunity not only to carry out a fire restoration of the affected rooms, but also to make fundamental improvements. Thanks to the commitment of those responsible, planners and contractors, the project was successfully implemented. Initially, the rooms only had showers on the floor and were only partially barrier-free. Now, after just a few months of planning and construction, barrier-free bathrooms, a warm and friendly design and two new loggias await the residents, some of whom were able to find a new home temporarily in the nearby Pelago care home in Rorschacherberg.

The architect's challenge in age-appropriate construction lies in the functional and creative implementation of a wide range of requirements, some of which are not easy to reconcile. A warm and friendly environment promotes the well-being of the residents. At the same time, the materials should meet the normative requirements. be resistant, suitable for the building, hygienic and easy to clean.

Spatially optimized floor plans and the space requirements of barrier-free construction pose a challenge, particularly in the case of renovations. The fire protection requirements for an accommodation facility demand appropriate design and materials.

The Susanne Fritz Architects team has extensive knowledge of innovative materials and products for good design, such as antibacterial surfaces, age-appropriate furniture with incontinence protection, dementia-friendly design and furniture with ergonomic features especially for senior citizens.
